Wing
Benigno proudly announced there are now
three callers calling for this
club,
with Andy Benigno (Wing's hubby) being the Lead Caller.
The other two who tutored under Andy are
Peter Genato and Richard
Yu.
Congratulations, Manila Hoedowners Club!!
See, they used to dance only to pre-recorded
square dance calls (cassettes and video tapes)
that
their extremely generous
and big-hearted Club President,
Mercy Lee,
buys
directly from the United States.
However, through the years, one of
their talented members,
Andy Benigno, started learning the art of
square dance calling.
With the support of the club,
he has since turned into their Resident Caller.
Then he started recruiting for more
callers as the club
started to expand its members.
More power to you,
Andy!
Wing also proudly announced that this club is maintaining
five active
squares!
We hope more new members will join this fun club soon.
The club level is Plus although the younger members
can dance the A1 calls that
they learned just by watching
Mercy Lee's video tapes
or doing extensive floor
time from their
seasoned caller, Andy.

There used to be
three but two folded away for good
due to lack of membership.
The vibrant,
ever-youthful-looking lady in blue is
Mercy Lee, the energetic founder and
president
of Manila Hoedowners club.
She and her hubby Peter, are seasoned travelers
to the US.
Where they got their boundless energy is a
secret we all would like
to discover!
A few years back, the angels took Peter home to heaven.
We're sure he is still actively square dancing up there.
About every other year, they sign up for the
National Convention.
In June 2001 they and several members joined them to the
National Convention in Anaheim, California.
We
danced with them in Manila, Philippines the year before
and in San Antonio,
Texas a few years back.
In June 2001 at the national convention,
we marched
with them during the
"Parade of States and Countries".
What fun! Andy's
lovely wife, Wing,
even made extra colorful vests for us to wear to the parade.
