Background Music:

Midi Sequencer:  Dick Anderson
Country/Blues Guitar

The dancer wearing a red shirt next to Dick is Hiro Suzuki,
an avid Round Dancer as well as square dancer.
He frequently travels to the US on business
and stays in San Francisco for a few days to attend
to some business. Then he visits local SD clubs,
especially the Caper Cutters where he has made
several friends through the years
such as Mary Forese, Hazel Farrell,
Ken and Elena, to name a few.

Ops, I came face to face
with three old fashioned Japanese gentlemen,
two of them Square Dance Callers, all curiously wanting
to know why I chose to work in a big corporate office
instead of staying home and be an obedient wife!
They were just teasing me, of course.

Traditionally, it takes a long while for most Japanese to warm up to a complete stranger.
Can hardly blame them though!  But guess what, square dancing easily broke
the "icy barrier".  We were warmly welcomed with wide open arms like long lost friends!

And to our pleasant surprise, square dancing is very much alive in Japan!
On our last visit, there were about twenty active SD clubs in the Tokyo area alone!
And more clubs outside the big city, right Shozo?

         Tip:
if you plan to do some square dancing n Japan, it is advisable to write to
the club's contact listed in the worldwide square dance directory
of your upcoming visit.  Once they acknowledge  and write back,
you're assured of a most enjoyable and memorable visit such as ours.
They will roll out the red carpet
and treat you warmly like some visiting VIPs.
I'm serious!

Why, on the night we visited Chiyoda Squares, they invited six Callers
and held a delightful mini-hoedown! What an  affair to remember -
one we will cherish in our hearts forever!

And no matter what language is spoken in any foreign country, square dance calls
are always delivered in English!

Of course a happy smiling face is a universal language anyone
understands so well.

They would merrily giggle when you miss a call or break a square.
No big deal and nobody gets upset!
